I’m Zoe.
My mission is to teach you to  confidently build magazine-worthy DIYs. I used to be terrified of power tools, which is why I'm a firm believer that ANYONE can DIY.

Gimme that

When we started building our house, we got so excited at the idea of a screened in porch.

I love being outside, but I hate bees. Seriously, if I see a bee, I get up and run in the other direction. It’s bad.

So when I realized I could sit outside AND be protected from bees, it was a must-have. We’ve enjoyed it for the past few months, but, it never felt all that homey. I wanted an in-home vacation getaway and our current situation wasn’t cutting it.

I came up with an idea for a wallscape and it spiraled from there–we were going to do a full-on update!

In a single weekend, our screened in porch went from this to that!

And let me tell you, I couldn’t be more thrilled! You can see our screened porch from our living room and it just makes the whole house feel that much more relaxing.

screened in porch weekend upgrade before and after

Privacy first

It all started with the DIY privacy wall. We bought some plant holder rings from Home Depot and upgraded terracotta pots with some spray paint, DIY stencils, and triple thick glaze (you can read the full painted pot tutorial here).

I have always wanted curtains for the screened porch, so we decided to add those in a well–yes the curtains and curtain rod are both outdoor-friendly!

Lighting

Next up was hanging the string lights. They are LED, dimmable, and didn’t cost a fortune. It only took us 3 months of looking at string lights to finally decide on these ones (no, three months is unfortunately not an exaggeration).

The details

Finally, we tied it all together with a fun new rug and all the plants!

And with that, I’ll declare this weekend screened porch update complete! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to put my feet up and go enjoy a mojito on my *new* screened porch!
